with Jim vanderkeyl
Animator with over 25 years experience
Hey Jim,
I just wanted to thank you for that review class. It was extremely informative and very concise.
Going through (******) College's 3D Animation program, I have yet to receive such detailed analyses from my teachers.
This was refreshing and motivating at the same time. I now have a better sense of what is expected from me and my work.

MY STORY
I recognize the potential in each one of my students. With my approach, I’ve seen my students’ self-esteem and skill-set consistently rise. I love what I do and it makes me happy to be able to share my passion with others. Since starting as a private instructor in 2009, my approach to teaching animation has resulted in helping students hone their animating skills and get ready them ready for the real world of animating at professional animation studios. The problem that most students have is there is a huge gap between what the animator envisions for his scene and using the technology to get there.. My job is to close that gap so that the craft and tech of animating becomes second nature and all you have left is to bring your vision to life.

MY BACKGROUND
I have been in the animation industry since 1989 getting my start as an inbetweener on the Little Mermaid at Disney. I have since worked my way up to animator, getting my education on the job at studios such as Baer Animation, Rich Animation, Warner Brothers, Sony Imageworks, Dreamworks Animation, Blue Sky and with Catmandu in Buenos Aires in Argentina. While at Warner Brothers I was nominated for a Best Animator Annie Award for my work on Iron Giant with Brad Bird (director of Incredibles and Ratatouille). I made the transition to CG animation early on during Osmosis Jones from WB doing small bits of animation on Drix. My first full featured CG animation projects came when working on Stuart Little 2 for Sony Imageworks and I have been doing CG ever since. Past projects include Shark Tale, Over the Hedge, Monsters vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda,Flushed Away, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss N Boots.
I am currently the animation supervisor at Singing Frog Studio in Montreal, Canada. I supervised the Quebec super successful feature film La Guerre des Tuques ( English - Snowtime!) And am currently supervising animation on the sequel -La Course des Tuques. I also spent a year animating at Framestore on Beauty and the Beast for Disney mega successful remake of the original.
